Webster Park; YNN TV Interview; Irondequoit Bay; Grey Prey

We were pretty tired after Monday night’s dinner and talk at La Maquette, but Suzanne held an “oh-dark-thirty” reveille Tuesday morning for all hands. (Let me tell you, when My Lovely Bride has an appointment, she allows no “late sleepers” on my part, especially after our “traffic from hell” experience in Toronto.) We arrived in the Rochester area Tuesday afternoon and set up camp in a lovely Monroe County park in Webster, NY, complete with electricity and water. (Quite a change from our Wal-Mart parking lot!) After a refreshing 10 minute nap, Suzanne was dressed and ready for her next event, an interview with YNN-TV in downtown Rochester.

Helen Moore is a very professional TV journalist who met us outside the Little Theater, where Chris Lavelle’s documentary Messages of Hope is being shown Thursday evening. (Chris lives and works in Rochester, so he’s a home town hero).

The interview will be shown hourly today on YNN, a cable channel here, but unfortunately non-subscribers can only read the text; the video is for subscribers only. However, we are working to get a copy that we can post online, so “watch this space”.

Wednesday morning (after a blissful 10 hours of sleep) found us exploring Webster, at least the beautiful area along Lake Ontario. We spoke to a fisherman hoping for steelhead along the entrance to Irondequoit Bay; he was rigging his hook with very ripe salmon eggs, but hadn't caught anything yet.

There was a storm brewing out on the lake where J-24 sailboats were having their world championships, but too far offshore for a decent photo. These willow trees were bending with the fresh breeze, and the dark sky beyond portended rain.

We had parked at the entrance to Irondequoit Bay next to Mayer's Marina, and met Sue, who worked there and sailed on a Beneteau sloop out of Rochester. She gave us some "local knowledge" insights into the boating scene in Rochester, and surprised us by knowing several people in The Villages. She hasn't been to visit yet, though, so if you know Sue, send her an invitation!

We also got a walk in this morning in prime squirrel country, and Rudy and Gretchen got to chase a couple up trees. They are very happy, since Toronto's Wal-Mart offered neither good walks or potential prey.
