Windex?; Beep Beep; fisher-girl; a strip (fill in the blank); a reptilian smile

I woke up this morning figuring this was going to be a boring day. After my race yesterday, it was to be a recovery day: normally a walk or an easy ride for about 30 mins. But before I could PT, I had chores to do. The outside of The Bus was looking a bit dusty after our trip from Tucson. But the Navy campground we’re in has several signs prohibiting washing of cars or RVs. Bummer... Do you have any idea how many paper towels it takes to Windex the windows, front, sides and back end of a 40 foot bus? At least we’re looking shipshape and Bristol fashion now!
After lunch I loaded up my new mountain bike (a Diamondback Overdrive 29er) and drove to the visitor center at Mission Trails Regional Park. The trails here are a blast, a bit rocky in places but fast. Here’s a view over the handlebars (no, I wasn’t riding just then). My camera wasn’t out when out from the brush popped a roadrunner; remember him and the hapless Wiley Coyote?

A short drive away was Lake Murray, which I had yet to visit. While walking, I met one of the park rangers, who told me that the primary purpose of the lake is as a reservoir for San Diego. It gets a lot of its water from the Colorado River via aqueducts and the All-American Canal, which is called “the most dangerous body of water in the US”, having seen over 500 drownings since 1997. Lake Murray itself is surrounded by some residential housing and open hillsides, and is quite serene. Here we see two brothers and their sister fishing from the shore for bluegills. The young lady actually had a much better casting style than her brothers, by the way.

There were also two guys taking their girlfriends out for a row on the lake. As a Navy guy who grew up around boats, I could detect rather easily that these guys were not Navy-trained... my friend Jim would laugh riotously at their rowing style. He has a racing shell, and even seems rather proficient at it, for a retired airline pilot. Jim, could you fly out and give them some lessons?

On the way back to Rudy and Gretchen, something caught my eye... a strip mall. (Some of you were expecting another word? Like “club”? Puh-lease.... think nice thoughts!) In between the Cash Advance store (aren’t those folks so kind and thoughtful?) and the Sew and Vac (does anyone sew these days?) was... LLL Reptile...
I’m not kidding; I can’t make this stuff up... so I went inside, thinking that I might surprise Suzanne when she gets back from Florida...

It was a tough choice between the Baby Irian Jaya Carpet Python for $129.99, the Small Egyptian Uromastyx for $129 and the Adult Female Albino Leopard Gecko for $49.99. (I asked why the Male version of the gecko was only $39.99, but the male clerk, who had those earring plug thingies the size of quarters) merely snickered; there were children around).

I’m not going to give away any surprises in case Suzanne reads this, but here’s an accessory that looked interesting.
Nope, today was definitely NOT a boring day!
